Wrap Me In Cashmere, Dress Me In Down. Its Noel Night!

Telluride, Colo. -
Editor's note: the following is a quick sampling of what's available this Noel Night. It isn't meant to be exhaustive, and nearly all of Telluride's retailers are offering up something special tonight. Check them out.
Shopping is easy. Noel Nighting is hard. It's an endurance sport. Eating, walking (on ice) and having the endurance to thumb the racks... it's enough to wear down even the Hilton sisters.
Noel Night - the annual pre-Christmas shopping romp through downtown Telluride - is upon us again. It's about time, too - with bad news all over the place, who couldn't use a retail tuneup?
Around town, most merchants are offering discounts determined by grab bag, meaning it's a chance what percentage of savings buyers pull out.
Anywhere you go, it's all good. Here's a sampling of what's out there.
At Jagged Edge, there's wool and skis and gloves galore. They'll be doing 10-40 percent off softgoods through the grab bag, and up to 30 percent on gear. Quick picks: an Ibex wool jacket ($275) that's at home in the bar, in the back of the truck or on the floor. 'And then you can pass it on to your grandkids,' said manager Cari Mackey. They also stock wool pants for workouts and late night sledding escapades. Dress, XC skiing, yoga, it's all good. Icelantic skis top the want list here. The new company (Colorado born and bred and manufactured in the NeverSummer factory) has a two-year warranty, no questions asked. 'It doesn't matter if you run them over with your car,' she said.
CashmereRed, an upscale boutique, is the place for smart-dressers and even smarter sons. Mom will love the 'chuncky hat,' a perfect cashmere beanie with a delicate pattern. Save the day on Christmas for $150. Also in demand this holiday season: an Italian-made cashmere cape, ($3,200) and classic men's V-neck cashmere sweaters.
'You can't go wrong with a men's V-neck sweater,' said Caci Grinspan, owner.
The Telluride Music Company will offer 15 percent off on all CDs and DVDs. Accessories and books will be grab bag discounted and there's even special pricing on instruments, so you can learn to play guitar and woo your high school sweetheart back, after all. Smart money: Ryan Adams and the Cardinals' new album, 'Cardinology.' It's like a friend you can't leave behind.
Need to bevel that holiday edge? Telluride Liquors is to the rescue: they'll offer grab bag discounts on the finest spirits.
The Toggery, nearly everyone's favorite family clothing shop, will open at 8 a.m. and offer 20-50 percent off until 1 p.m. After that, there's a chance you'll pull 10 percent off from the bag of discounts. They'll have food from Cocina and coffee from the Coffee Cowboy all day and switch to Megan Langford's absurdly good catering for the night shift.
Be merry; it shouldn't be hard.
Schilling Studio Gallery, the new little gallery just off main on Pine Street, will be serving something its owner called 'hot-spicy-unsweetened-organic-Dagoba hot chocolate.' The famous Cinda will also be taking orders for the famous baked goodies. On the walls is new art from Nina Tichava, an artist who works imagery from her mother's weavings into roving, mixed media masterpieces. Heavy, textured and beautiful. Trust us; she's perfect. Priced at $1,600 for a smaller work.
Schilling is also selling Christmas ornaments donated by Jeff Clapp, an artist who makes bells and bowls of old oxygen canisters found on Everest. The ornaments are full of metal shavings - tinsel - from the bottles, meaning the world's tallest peak is at home on your tree. Deep, we know. What's more, the sale of the ornaments ($15) goes to the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program and hoodie dress Mountainfilm.
All the Everest talk make you cold? Overland, purveyor of fine outerwear, will offer 10-40 percent off, and cotton wedding dress Black Bear Trading Co. is doing 25 percent off its entire store.
Paragon Ski and Sport is offering 15-50 percent off, and introducing locals to its Patagonia line, which the store just began to carry. The Patagonia down hoody ($260) could warm even the coldest heart, and the Icebreaker (wool) V-neck T-shirts ($58) make men look more handsome than they are.
Sunglass HQ will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., discounting shades at 10-50 percent. Every $50 spent goes into a drawing for prizes, too. Tip: greet your future with ease and style in a pair of Ralph Lauren shades. It seems $225 can go a long way.
For the finer women in our lives, we recommend Two Skirts, a boutique as sweet as a pink-frosted cupcake. They'll offer 20-40 percent off.
The Telluride Gallery of Fine Art will beckon, with 10-30 percent off its sparkling selection of jewelry. It's nice enough stuff to erase the fact you aren't [nice enough]. The Gallery, in a late announcement, will also host the official DVD release of 'Red Gold,' locals Ben Knight and peacock dress Travis Rummel's documentary looking at a potential mine's affect on a prolific salmon river. The movie's collected viewer's choice awards galore at film festivals and garnered the director's choice award here at Mountainfilm. Go onsupport your hometown boys.
