Theater To Perform Spooky, Comical Halloween Show

A haunting, yet comical, play will take the stage at the Boal Barn Playhouse Wednesday through Saturday.
Honeymoon at Graveside Manor, performed by the State College Community Theatre (SCCT), focuses on newlyweds that go on a not-so-traditional honeymoon.
'The play gives a taste of Halloween, but isn't scary -- not everyone likes scary,' said Amber Evans, who plays Marian, one of the newlyweds.
Evans said the storyline involves newlyweds Tyler and Marian, who have ventured to a long-time abandoned house: Graveside Manor.
Tyler, who writes horror novels, hopes to write a ghost novel at the house, but did not inform his wife about the location of the honeymoon. Upon arrival, crochet dress Marian realizes quickly that their vacation is not going to be as romantic as she originally imagined.
Filled with comedy and pranks, Honeymoon at Graveside Manor is a play for all ages, said Courtney Wozetek, chairwoman for the SCCT marketing and promotions committee. Wozetek plays Tyler's publishing editor, Madge. She added that the best way to describe the play is 'Scooby-Doo-esque.'
The stage is never empty, director Edna Rentschler said.
She said characters run around the stage trying to figure out the identity of the ghost and prom dress patterns some see the ghost while others do not.
'There are lots of 'Well, you must be crazy' moments,' she said.
Rentschler, resident costume designer for SCCT, said Honeymoon at Graveside Manor is the first play she has directed for the group.
'The cast has been great to work with,' she said. 'Since the actors are having so much fun, I'm sure it will translate to the audience.'
The barn is unheated so blankets will be provided to the audience to keep warm during the show, spanish dress Rentschler said.
She added the cast rehearsed in the barn for three weeks without any heat, forcing warm dress.
Evans said because the play is being performed the week before HalloweenPenn State students could attendstill go out for the holiday.
'The play gets you in the mood for the upcoming week of Halloween,' Wozetek said.
